It’s been a staggering 231 days since I last taught Yoga For Men at Keynsham Baptist Church in Bristol. When I left that early Spring evening, I never envisaged that it would take until a dark night in the Autumn to restart the classes. As has been the case for many, it’s been a tough seven months. Juggling a full-time job and full-time childcare during the early stages of lockdown was heavy going, and carving the time out to even think about teaching yoga again felt very much like a pipe dream.
I have to admit that I felt pretty low. I missed teaching. I missed the guys. I missed hearing their stories about how beneficial yoga had been in other aspects of their lives. I still kept up my home practice with Do Yoga With Me, mixing it up with Joe Wicks style high intensity workouts, and was probably in the best physical shape I’d been in a long while, even if mentally i was feeling the strain.
I threw myself back into teaching through my Morning Stretch sessions on Facebook Live during Mental Health Awareness Week and the following weeks. I then followed that up with my hugely successful Summer Stretch Challenge on Facebook Live, raising an incredible £560 for local charities severely impacted by Covid-19, seeing a significant shortfall in donations as a result.
As much as I loved the stretch sessions on Facebook, I looked forward to teaching in-person again. An inspirational chat with fellow Bristol School of Yoga alumni, You Yoga With Zara was just what I needed to make it happen, in particular my online booking system. Keynsham Baptist Church was also very accommodating, and have done a huge amount to ensure their venue is Covid safe to use.
I am delighted to confirm that Yoga For Men classes restart at Keynsham Baptist Church on Monday 2nd November. There are a few notable changes that you can find on my Yoga For Men page. As much as the rules and regulations around Covid could be off putting, it’s worth bearing in mind that the 2-metre social distancing does have its advantages as you will have more room to stretch out!
